Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 13: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today strongly opposed the amendments in J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, widening the ambit of the administrative role of the Lieutenant Governor by amending the Transaction of Business Rules, saying this is against the tenets of democratic way of governance, amounting to trampling the urges and aspirations of the people. In a statement, Sadhotra said that nothing but restoration of statehood is acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "At a time the people in this part of the country were expecting declaration of schedule for holding elections to the Legislative Assembly as also restoration of the Statehood as promised on the floor of Parliament, the Centre has come out with illogical and undemocratic notification on more powers to the Lieutenant Governor", he added. Sadhotra castigated the BJP for undermining the status of Jammu and Kashmir and marginalising it so ruthlessly, saying this must have happened for the first time that any state is transformed and downgraded as a Union Territory. This speaks of the authoritarian policies of the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has no regard for sensitivities of the people and democratic polity. Sadhotra sought immediate rollback of the notification, restoration of statehood and holding of the elections to legislative assembly as per the directions of Supreme Court. He said the National Conference, a cadre based premier political party of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh will continue to fight peacefully for democratic rights of the people and their honour and dignity.
