Subash Shastri Urges PM to Appoint Ashok Lavasa as Chairman of 8th Pay Commission
7/14/2024 11:08:50 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 14: In a significant development, Subash Shastri, President of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC), called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately appoint Ashok Lavasa as the chairman of the 8th Pay Commission.
Shastri emphasized the importance of this announcement being made by the Union Finance Minister during the presentation of the Union Budget in Parliament on July 23, 2024. He highlighted that the establishment of the pay commission would eliminate confusion and uncertainty among employees and pensioners. Addressing NMC workers, Shastri noted that, with the exception of the 7th Pay Commission, all previous pay commissions were constituted in the third year of each decade. He stressed the urgent need for a notification to constitute the 8th Pay Commission, which would impact approximately one crore employees and pensioners in both central and state governments. He urged that the commission should expedite its report to ensure timely implementation before January 1, 2026, the due date for the next pay revision. Shastri also advocated for the immediate merger of 50% of Dearness Allowance (DA) into the basic pay and pension, and called for a 20% interim relief for employees and pensioners to mitigate the effects of rising prices and inflation.
