| First Metal on Metal Hip Replacement in ASCOMS | | |

Jammu, Mar 18- The first metal on metal hip replacement was successfully conducted by the Orthopedic Department of ASCOMS, Sidhra here today.
The first replacement operation was conducted on Balwant Singh, a 52 year old male patient who was suffering from damage to hip joint (AVN) following trauma four years ago following which he was unable to walk properly, sit and squat and severe pain round the clock. Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Dr. D.S. Gulatia, Dr. Anoop Kumar, Dr A. Ghani and Dr. Manish Singh are working as two teams providing round the clock care to all Ortho Patients.
On behalf of department, Dr. Anoop Kumar said that Metal on Metal hip replacement is the latest variety of hip replacement with many advantages, implant has lifespan of 45-50 years as compared to 15 -20 years of either hip implants, It is non cemented and chances of loosening are not there, the biggest advantage is that it can be done in young patient and patient can sit and squat like the natural hip joint which was not possible with earlier hips, he added.
The replacement of hip surgery was started five years back and many Jammuites have been benefited as cost of surgery is low, less botheration for patient and relatives and round the clock availability of surgeons. All type of joint replacement like total knee, total hip sports injuries and all orthopedic procedure are being performed as normal routine.
