| Nature tour for school children in Leh | | | Early Times report Leh, Mar 18- The Wildlife Department organized a day long nature tour for the school children of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh and the Moravian Mission School. As many as 40 students, both boys and girls and few teachers of these institutions were taken round to Rumbak area of Hemis High Altitude National Park here today. The team was flagged off by the Regional Wildlife Warden, Jigmet Takpa. Before the flag off ceremony, Jigmet Takpa addressed to the touring team and highlighted the significance of conservation of nature. He urged that everyone should be nature friendly. He said that Ladakh has a unique eco-system with important and world famous species of animals, birds and plants and as such, the values of this character need to be protected at all cost. Takpa said that wildlife department has launched a movement in Ladakh for preservation and promotion of flora and fauna of Ladakh and this movement is gaining success with the active cooperation and compassionate attitude of the people of Ladakh. The wildlife warden Leh Tahir Shawl also spoke on the occasion. Giving a brief summary of Hemis High Altitude National Park, he said that this park formed in 1987 is spread over on an area of 3350 Sq. Kms having 13 important animal species, 500 plants species and about 75 bird species. He said that so many scientists, researchers and tourists from India as well as from broad are coming to Ladakh to study and research on rich flora and fauna of Ladakh in Hemis National Park. ********
