Ahead of Assembly polls, Cong intensifies campaign to hijack BJP’s agenda on terrorism

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 17: Encouraged by peoples’ response to the party on two Lok Sabha seats, Congress has intensified its campaign to hijack BJP's counter-terrorism narrative to corner the Saffron party ahead of the crucial Assembly polls in J&K.
Amid repeated terror attacks in Jammu province, the opposition Congress kicked start a campaign in different parts of J&K to “expose” BJP for its failure to check terrorism.
Following a massive protest in Jammu City against the recent Doda terror attack on Wednesday, the opposition Congress announced on Wednesday that it will escalate its protests to the district level to challenge the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.
Recognizing that the surge in terrorism in the Jammu province is a highly sensitive issue, the Congress has decided to vigorously highlight this concern. The party aims to put the BJP on the defensive, particularly in Jammu province, where they anticipate a direct electoral contest with the saffron party.
AICC leader and in-charge of J&K affairs, Bharat Sinh Solanki, expressed deep concern over the increasing terror attacks that have resulted in the martyrdom of several Army and security force personnel. He criticized the central government and the UT administration for their inability to curb the rising terror activities in the Jammu region.

a sudden surge in terror attacks across most parts of the Jammu region following the peaceful conduct of the Lok Sabha polls, and why has the government failed to control it despite being in power for ten years?” Solanki questioned. Solanki highlighted that 48 soldiers have lost their lives in various terror attacks since 2021. Countering the BJP government’s claims of controlling terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, he stated, “There is a difference between saying and doing in the BJP. They are using power to stay in power, exploiting the people and resources of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He noted that there have been 11 terror attacks in the past 78 days, leading to the deaths of nearly 50 soldiers since October 2021 across the Jammu region, creating widespread fear among the people. “We are deeply concerned about the current security situation. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Defence Minister have not expressed any grief over the loss of lives, including those of civilians and pilgrims,” Solanki said.
Solanki also criticized the BJP’s claims of eradicating terrorism since coming to power in 2014, asserting that they have failed to effectively tackle the security challenges. He contrasted the current situation with the relative peace during the UPA regime, pointing out that there was no such surge in terrorism during the Parliament elections.
