Early Times Report

Jammu, July 18: Amid repeated terror attacks in the Doda and Kathua districts, security has been tightened and vigilance increased in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district along the borders with Jammu and Kashmir. Security personnel in Chamba have been put on high alert, and patrolling has been intensified to prevent any infiltration attempts by extremists.
This step has been taken after Himachal Pradesh government stopped Chamba-Doda bus serive just two days ago.
Reports indicate that border outposts have been instructed to maintain heightened alert and increased vigilance. Following the terror attacks in Doda and Kathua, an alert has been sounded in Chamba district, and inter-state patrolling has been ramped up.
Previously, the ITBP manned this sensitive border until 2012 when the central government decided to withdraw it. Security along this tranquil border was of little concern until 1998, when Pakistan-trained terrorists massacred 35 laborers in two separate incidents in Satrundi and Kalaban in Chamba district. This event underscored the urgency of deploying a central security agency for border management. Consequently, the state government decided to seal the areas and sought central assistance for securing th

borders in Chamba district, which adjoins the terrorist-infested regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
In light of increasing terrorist activities, the Chamba-Doda bus service has been suspended. Launched just two weeks ago by the Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation (HPTC), the inter-state bus service on the Chamba-Doda route via Padri Jot and Bhaderwah was aimed at providing comfortable travel for people in Chamba’s border areas. However, recent terror attacks in the neighboring Doda district have led to its temporary cessation to ensure passenger safety.
On Monday, terrorists attacked an Army patrol party in Doda, resulting in the death of four soldiers, including a captain. In response, the Himachal Pradesh Police and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) have heightened vigilance, establishing checkpoints along the 216 km border shared between Chamba and Doda. Local residents, including shepherds who traverse between Chamba and Doda, have been urged to remain cautious.
Despite receiving intelligence inputs, officials have refrained from disclosing specifics about terrorist movements in Himachal Pradesh. There are apprehensions that terrorists could attempt to sneak into Himachal Pradesh under pressure from the forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
