Early Times Report

Jammu, July 19: The Jammu and Kashmir police are not only battling armed terrorists but also combating a false narrative propagated by nearly fake social media accounts.
These fake social media accounts are spreading vicious propaganda and false narratives to create chaos and confusion.
Cops of the J&K Police are not only fighting against Pakistan-trained terrorists but they are also battling against the misleading narratives spread by 8,000 fake social media accounts on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
These handlers, operating from outside the country, aim to incite trouble and glorify terrorism by spreading false information.
We are taking legal action against them, distinguishing between genuine and fake accounts.
Some time back, the Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain has admitted that social media accounts are peddling false narratives to incite violence and luring innocent youth to join terror groups.
In 2023, the Union Government has blocked 14 messenger mobile applications that were used by terrorists in Pakistan as communic

tion platforms to transmit information to Jammu and Kashmir.
It was found that these apps were being used by terrorists in Kashmir to communicate with their supporters and on-ground workers (OGW).
Soon after the information was shared with the Ministry of Home Affairs that these applications are being used by OWGs and members of different terrorist groups to circulate anti-India messages, the ministry in close coordination with IT ministry and other concerned agencies blocked them.
Most of these mobile apps are specially designed to maintain the anonymity of the users as well as their inbuilt features also make it difficult to find out the entities associated with them.
Through these applications, terrorist outfits and their affiliates were engaging their associates in Jammu and Kashmir to further their terror activities in the Union Territory and other places.
As inputs received that these applications are being used to further terror propaganda and incite youths in Jammu and Kashmir, the Central government blocked them under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
