Early Times Report

Jammu, July 19: Although the exercise to shortlist potential candidates for the coming Assembly elections has started by the party, Congress leadership has decided to lure “annoyed” BJP leaders for important seats.
Highly placed sources in Congress said that party leadership is very much aware that many senior politicians of Jammu province have joined the BJP during the last five years and all of them are not going to get the party mandates.
“Not only new entrants even some veteran BJP leaders including former legislators and some of the ex-ministers are unlikely to get the mandate so our focus would be poach these potential leaders for Assembly elections”, a senior Congress told The Early Times.
Wishing anonymity, the Congress leader said that the distribution of party mandates and satisfying all senior leaders would be a difficult rather impossible task for the BJP during the Assembly elections.

Congress leaders have reasons to pin hope on the potential BJP leaders as more than half a dozen strong leaders are staking their claims.
ly elections because for each Assembly segment in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, and Udhampur districts there are more than half a dozen strong leaders are staking their claims.
For five Assembly segments of Jammu city namely Jammu-South, Bahu, Jammu East, Jammu North, and Jammu West over 40 senior leaders of the BJP, including former ministers and ex-legislators are staking their claims.
“Satisfying all these leaders would not be possible for the BJP so some of these leaders would definitely approach our party for contesting elections”, the Congress leader further said.
Sources in the BJP said that the party is unlikely to field elected members of the District Development Councils (DDCs) in the Assembly elections so these DDC members would also create problems for the party.
Notable during the last four years there has been a race among senior politicians of different political parties to join the BJP to secure their political future. After joining the BJP, these leaders are now aspiring to contest elections.
