| DDC Udhampur inaugurates free eye camp | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, MARCH 18 - A three-day free eye operation camp being organized by the District Blindness Control Society, Udhampur, was inaugurated by the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria at District Hospital, Udhampur, here on Wednesday. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. B. B. Sharma, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Chander Prakash and Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Arun Sharma were also present on the occasion. As many as 60 patients suffering from eye ailments, were screened for surgery in Intra-Ocular lens implantation (IOL). Eye Specialists, Dr. Nirmal and Dr. Sanjay from Udhampur Hospital and Dr. Ashok Sharma, Ophthalmic Surgeon from Jammu extended their services to the patients. Appreciating the efforts of the Society, the DDC called for holding more such eye camps so that the needy and underprivileged sections of the society could get themselves treated from the expert doctors free of cost. To cover hilly and remote areas of the district, the DDC exhorted upon the members of the Society to make organize more such eye camps in remote areas also. The DDC also had a round of various wards of the hospital and interacted with the patients to take stock of facilities being provided to them by the Hospital administration. Deputy CMO disclosed that similar camps would also be organized in other parts of the district to facilitate the deserving patients suffering from different eye ailments. For the purpose, the District Blindness Control Society would seek help of various non-governmental organizations. He also revealed that in the memory of reputed eye surgeon of Udhampur, Late Dr. Romesh Gupta, his family is extending free diet to patients in the 3-day camp. Among others, Dr. Kudiyar, Dr. Prakash Atri, Dr. Sunil Kailu and Dr. Jangral were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
