Khajuria asks offices focus on poverty alleviation scheme

UDHAMPUR, MARCH 18 - The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria has stressed upon the district officers of line departments and Bankers to lend special attention towards speeding up growth process by sponsoring and financing the deserving beneficiaries under various Government sponsored poverty alleviation schemes for socio-economic transformation of economically weaker sections of the society.
The DDC was addressing a meeting of District Consultative Committee (DCC)-cum-District Level Review Committee (DLRC), here on last evening to have a review of achievements ending December, 2008.
MLA Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, Assistant General Manager, RBI, Ravinder Koul, Lead District Manager, SBI, S.K. Gadoo, Chief Planning Officer, H.H.Dutt, District Development Manager, NABARD, Rattan Lal, Chief Manager, SBI, Parvinder Bharti, AGM, J&K Bank, Assistant Project Director, DRDA, District Heads of various departments and Block Development Officers attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC also stressed upon the need for strengthening recovery machinery in the district so that recoveries from defaulters were ensured. For the purpose, he called for urgent meeting of sub-committees already constituted which included Bankers, Addl. DDC, BDOs and Tehsildars. He laid special emphasis on authentication of sponsored cases by Revenue officers sent to them by different departments within a stipulated time frame so that the beneficiaries get loan at the earliest.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of banks and officers of Line departments in financing and sponsoring cases, Mr. Khajuria urged upon them to be liberal while processing the cases of educated unemployed and poor sections of society to raise their economic status. He also called upon the agencies to start sponsoring case from the first day of the next financial year to achieve optimum results.
Mr. Mankotia while urging the officers to bring maximum beneficiaries under the ambit of Government sponsored schemes meant for poverty alleviation, called for public motivation by holding awareness camps in every nook and corner of the district so that people may readily come forward in getting their cases sponsored and establish units of their choice.
AGM, Mr. Koul called upon the sponsoring agencies to recommend genuine cases to banks for their early settlement. He also urged upon bankers to be sincere while granting loans to beneficiaries including farmers in getting their Kissan Credit Cards.
Lead District Manager, Udhampur revealed in the meeting that various banks had advanced Rs.45.58 Crores to 3221 beneficiaries in the district against an yearly target of Rs.63.50 Crore upto ending December, 2008, thereby achieving 72 per cent of the target.
Later, the Annual Credit Plan of over Rs.75.90 Crore for the year 2009-10 was approved by the House unanimously. The plan with a special thrust on poverty alleviation programmes and for providing employment opportunities to unemployed youth would benefit 7223 beneficiaries of the district.
