| Minister calls for forest protection | | | Early Times Report Mansar, March 18- Seeking public cooperation in conservation of forests, the Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf on Tuesday said that stringent measures are being taken to check vandalism of state’s green gold. The Minister was interacting with people during his day long tour to Mansar area. Minister called upon the people to extend their cooperation in protecting the forests, while describing these as backbone for lucrative Tourism Industry. He said Mansar is one of the most attractive tourism spot of Jammu Division visited by thousands of tourists every year. He said the rich flora and fauna of Mansar Lake and its green surroundings together makes it a prominent tourist spot of the area and added that only cooperation of the local people can help to conserve this rich ecosystem for the future generations. Regretting that much damage has been already done to the forests of the State, he said that strict directions have been issued to officers to tighten the noose around timber smugglers. He said the Forest department is taking several measures to strengthen the surveillance of forest and wildlife to save these from further damage. Earlier, Minister also visited several villages and took stock of the problems being faced by the people. The people of the area also put forth several demands and sought their early redressal.
