Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, conducts plantation drive

JAMMU, July 22: In a collaborative effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Department of Commerce and the NSS unit "Veerangana" at Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, organized a successful plantation drive on the college premises. The event was conducted in association with Bharat Vikas Parishad, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and held under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college.
Dr. Meeru Abrol addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical need for afforestation in today's world. She urged all participants to engage in tree planting, highlighting its importance for environmental preservation and ecosystem conservation. Dr. Abrol particularly stressed the involvement of the younger generation in these efforts, as they are the stewards of the future.
The program was initiated by Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Head of the Department of Commerce, who reiterated the significance of conserving nature and natural resources. Prof. Jyoti noted that the health of the environment is intrinsically linked to the well-being of individuals and that preserving nature is essential for ensuring a healthy legacy for future generations. During the drive, approximately 70 saplings were planted by Dr. Meeru Abrol, college faculty, members of Bharat Vikas Parishad, and NSS volunteers. The active participation of all stakeholders was evident as they planted various types of plants, contributing to the greenery and ecological balance of the college campus.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Kamal Deep Singh, Head of the Department of Punjabi, who expressed gratitude to all participants and collaborators for their contributions to the successful event.
Attendees from Bharat Vikas Parishad included President Sushil Ojha, Secretary Chandra Uday Sharma, Treasurer Ranjan Gupta, Prant President Bharat Bhushan Sharma, National Secretary (Environment) Dev Raj Sharma, National Member NGSC Arun Sharma, Seva Pramukh Rajni Gupta, and Mahila Pramukh Shashi Abrol.
This plantation drive marks a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness and sustainability, reinforcing the college's commitment to ecological preservation and the well-being of future generations.
