Jammu, July 23: Congress has decided to contest the coming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on the statehood plank to counter the BJP in Jammu region.
Apart from promising to restore statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Congress would also include job and land rights for the people of this region.
Although Congress has constituted an election manifesto committee headed by former Union Minister and ex-Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, the party has already decided to make job and land rights its main poll plank to take on BJP in Jammu region.
Sources said that during an internal survey conducted by a private agency, it came to notice that the majority of the people in the Jammu region are concerned about job and land rights. “We will vociferously rake up the issue of protecting job and land rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, a senior Congress told the Early Times.

Meanwhile, J&K Congress chief Vikar Raool Wani has said that the Congress party shall come up with a people’s manifesto for the coming assembly elections and give guarantees and commitments that shall be fulfilled within a timely manner.
Addressing a press conference at Jammu Wani said that for ten years BJP has given a lot of hardships and pinpricks to each and every section of the society and people have suffered a lot on various fronts.
“Congress will reach out to the people to listen to their issues and incorporate their demands in the manifesto in order to give relief to each and every section which has suffered during all these years”, he said.
Wani said that two committees for Jammu province have been constituted to reach out to the people in different districts and seek suggestions from all stakeholders for putting forth before the manifesto committee of the PCC under the overall chairmanship of Prof. Saifuddin Soz.
