JAMMU, July 24: A dharna (protest) will be held in Jammu on August 3 under the banner of All Party United Front demanding restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir along with rolling back the amendments under section 55 of the Reorganization Act, 2019. Along with this, a core and action committee was unanimously formed in the all-party meetings held in Jammu today. Sheikh Abdul Rehman was appointed as Chairman while I.D. Khajuria and Shiv Sena (UBT) State Chief Manish Sahni were appointed as Convenors while Narendra Gupta (Congress), Varinder Singh (PDP), Vijay Lochan (NC), Shahid Salim (Peace Alliance), Sunny Kant Chimb (HRC), Nirmal Mahana (AAP), Narendra Singh Khalsa, Comrade Sukhdev, Subhash Mehta (CPI-M), R.K. Kalsotra, Sanjeev Kohli were appointed as Co-Convenors.
Addressing the media persons after the meeting, Manish Sahni said that the definition of democracy has been changed during the BJP rule. BJP's greed for power is proving fatal for the identity of Jammu and Kashmir and the democratic rights of the people. Sahni said that the amendments issued on July 12 under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act are a violation of our democratic rights. He said that even before the formation of the Legislative Assembly, the jurisdiction of the nominated Lieutenant Governor is being increased by reducing the jurisdiction of the Legislative Assembly. Which is not in the interest of any democratic country or state. Sahni said that the movement will be started from August 3 regarding the above demands. Today's meeting was attended by Mohan Lal Raina, Shivraj Singh Samayal, Safir Chaudhary, Prof. GK Mujhu, Kuldeep Singh, Narendra Khajuria, Gitan Singh along with members of the core committee.
