The water tax which was going to wrong treasury
3/18/2009 11:56:48 PM

SUMIT SHARMA
Jammu, March 18: Normally beneficiaries of services, offered by the government, shirk from paying taxes, however, for past some time many residents of posh Gandhi Nagar area have been walking extra mile to pay for their water but the money was going to a wrong treasury.
A report in the Early Times (March ….issue) and a responsible reader in the area today saw a cheat, who had been collecting water tax, going to the lockup.
Anuj Trikha’s parents have made a mark in their chosen fields but the son chose to do it differently. With forged receipts, he had been going to the people in Gandhi Nagar posing as an employee of Public Health Engineering department and collecting water taxes from them. Anuj is believed to have illegally collected thousands of rupees from unsuspecting Gandhi Nagar residents. Though Early Times had exposed this but Police was yet to lay hands on him till Anuj was caught by a resident today.
This morning, Anuj knocked doors of one CM Arora and asked him for the water tax. This was probably a wrong door he had knocked. Arora had already read about Anuj in Early Times and he made no mistakes. Engaging cheat in paper formalities, he informed the Gandhi Nagar Police which swooped into action and caught hold of Anuj.
SP South Mubisher Latifi told Early Times, “with the arrest of the accused Jammu Police has provided a big relief to the inhabitants of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and Nanak Nagar areas”. The School Teacher turned swindler identified as Anuj Trikha swindled thousands of rupees by collecting Water Tax from the Public by impersonating himself as an employee of PHE Department. He also gave fake PHE receipts to the people in order to confirm his identity.
PHE Department had appealed public in the print as well as electronic media not to fall prey to these fake tax collectors. Assistant Executive Engineer PHE Sub-Division Gandhi Nagar moved an application before the Police on which Case FIR No 93/2009, U/S 420/467/468/RPC was registered in Police Station Gandhi Nagar in this regard. Anuj Trikha who is a notorious character is working as a teacher and presently posted in Govt. Hr. Sec. School Domana this time arrived to the house of one CM Arora in Gandhi Nagar area and demanded water tariff, he immediately informed the police station and a police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Sultan Mirza and SP South Mubisher Latifi immediately reached his house and arrested him and during his interrogation he admitted his hand in crime.
Pertinent to mention here that he was appointed as Laboratory Assistant in 2003 under SRO 43 after the death of his father in a road accident, who was serving as Principal of a Higher Secondary School. Anuj was promoted as teacher in the year 2008. To deceive the public, Anuj used to have proper Cash Book and computer printed receipts, which have been seized from his possession. He has been arrested in the past also in various theft cases. For a motorcycle theft, Case F.I.R No 113/2008, U/S 379/RPC was registered against him in Police Station Janipur and was chargesheeted on 13-12-2008. Efforts are on to apprehend his other colleagues involved in collection of money through these deceitful means.
