Natrang's Sunday Theatre showcases Surendra Verma's dramatic masterpiece 'Marnoprant'

JAMMU, July 28: Surendra Verma's gripping play "Marnoprant" brought life and intensity to Natrang's Sunday Theatre at the Studio Theatre, under the expert direction of Balwant Thakur. The audience experienced a novel theatrical presentation as two seasoned actors demonstrated their journey from script reading to full-fledged stage performance. The impressive 50 years of stage acting experience of both actors shone through in every moment of their performance.
"Marnoprant" is a powerful commentary on man-woman relationships, centered around a triangular love story. The narrative unfolds posthumously, with the husband and lover of a deceased young woman meeting for the first time. Their encounter lays bare the intricate details of their relationships and the frustrations stemming from an extramarital affair. The drama intensifies as the husband learns of his wife's infidelity only after her death, discovering she had almost left him for her lover. The husband's inability to question his unfaithful wife adds an ironic twist to the tale. Verma's play masterfully delves into inner conflicts through an experimental and intellectually stimulating theme. His adept handling of complex subjects and unique dramatic structure is commendable, with each word woven into a poetic tapestry.
Arvind Anand, portraying the 'Lover,' showcased his unparalleled acting prowess, reaffirming his status as a preeminent actor in Jammu. His command over the character, articulate delivery, and ability to immerse the audience in his emotional journey were remarkable. Anand's performance solidified his reputation as the undisputed king of Jammu theatre. Neeraj Kant, who played the 'Husband,' matched his co-actor's excellence. Kant's versatility and extensive list of accomplishments were evident throughout his engrossing performance.
The play's technical aspects, including lighting and sound, were efficiently managed by Mohd. Yaseen, contributing to the overall impact of the production.
