Govt College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar conducts oputreach Swachhta Awareness Drive

JAMMU, Aug 1: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, known as "Veerangana," conducted an Outreach Swachhta Awareness Drive in the adopted village of Kharbooja on August 1, 2024. This initiative was an effort to extend the college's commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental sustainability beyond the campus and into the local community.
The outreach drive commenced with a flag-off ceremony at the college, attended by the Principal, staff members, and students. The event featured a series of activities aimed at educating and engaging participants in the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
During the drive, volunteers conducted door-to-door awareness sessions, discussing critical topics such as waste segregation, recycling, and personal hygiene. They visited the homes of Kharbooja village residents, emphasizing the dangers of using plastic and polythene bags while promoting eco-friendly alternatives. Additionally, they highlighted the benefits of using dustbins and the importance of solid and water waste management.
Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol praised the collective efforts, stating, "This outreach drive demonstrates our college's commitment to social responsibility and environmental awareness. By involving the community, we aim to create a lasting impact and inspire others to adopt cleaner and greener practices." The event was organized by Dr. Preeti Salathia and Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, with special thanks extended to all volunteers, local authorities, and community members for their contributions. GCW Bhagwati Nagar remains dedicated to fostering a holistic education that includes academic excellence and a strong emphasis on social and environmental responsibility. Through various outreach programs, the college seeks to make a positive impact on society and encourage students to become active, responsible citizens.
