Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: GGM Science College proudly announces the launch of its Swachh Bharat initiative, aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene within the college campus and surrounding areas. This initiative aligns with the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a campaign by the Government of India to achieve a clean and green India.
The event was launched at Hari Singh Park and successfully extended to the college campus. A campus-wide cleanliness drive was led by the students, faculty, and staff of GGM Science College to create a sense of responsibility and awareness among students about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
During the Pakhwada a thorough cleaning of the college premises, including classrooms, laboratories, canteens, and outdoor spaces, will be conducted in series of events w.e.f 1st to 15th of Aug. 2024. Special attention will be given to waste segregation and proper disposal of waste materials. The college will host seminars and workshops on waste management, recycling, and the impact of a clean environment on health and well-being. Experts from the field will be invited to educate students and staff on sustainable practices. Students will actively participate in the campaign by forming cleanliness committees. These committees will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in designated areas and spreading awareness about hygiene practices. As part of its commitment to the community, the college will extend the cleanliness drive to nearby localities. This outreach aims to involve the community in the Swachh Bharat mission and encourage local residents to adopt clean and hygienic practices.
Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "The Swachh Bharat initiative at our college is more than just a cleanliness drive; it is a movement to instill a culture of cleanliness and responsibility. We are proud to contribute to the national mission and set an example for our students and the community." The GGM Science College Swachh Bharat initiative is a step towards creating a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment for all. The college invites everyone to join hands in this noble cause and make a difference. He emphasized the significance of cleanliness in his inaugural address. He stated, "Swachhta is not just a campaign; it is a way of life that promotes a healthy lifestyle and environmental conservation. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our surroundings are clean and hygienic, not just on designated days but throughout the year. Our students are the ambassadors of this mission, and their role in spreading awareness about cleanliness is crucial."
Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta further stressed that the "Swachhta Pakhwada" initiative should inspire everyone to maintain cleanliness in their daily lives, making it a continuous effort rather than a one-time activity. He called upon the students to lead by example and encourage their peers and communities to participate in cleanliness drives and adopt sustainable practices.
Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) Lt. Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma, Dr. Shafia Saleem, NSS Program Officers, Dr. Rahul Kait, Dr. Neha Sharma and Hostel Warden Prof. Rajive Kumar, coordinated the activities and played a vital role in the initiative. They emphasized the role of NSS volunteers, NCC Cadets and Boarders in community service and their responsibility in promoting social welfare.
Today's event concluded with singing of national Anthem cultivating a sense of unity and patriotism among the students and staff.
