Young Lawyers’ Association condemns fire incident at Mattan
8/1/2024 10:27:19 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 1: Strongly condemn the recent spate of fire incident targeting houses of Kashmiri Pandit community in Mattan town of Kashmir valley. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing report of four houses gutted in blaze under mysterious circumstances. The turmoil of three decades never brought any harm to these houses one of which is an architectural marvel visited by tourists. The incident has weakened the ongoing process of bringing normalcy in the valley. Of Late, the pandit community had gathered confidence to settle down in the valley again but such incidents brought all efforts for normalcy going back to zero.
Over the past months, there have been numerous incidents of terrorism in Jammu as well as in Kashmir. These acts are a blatant violation of bringing peace in the region. We call upon the authorities to take immediate and decisive action to protect the lives and properties of the pandit community in Kashmir region. A deep probe should be initiated and perpetrators of these heinous crimes must be swiftly identified, apprehended and brought to justice. Strict law and order measures, along with effective community outreach and confidence-building steps are needed to restore a sense of safety and security among the pandit community. Additionally, the government must initiate inter-community dialogues which are crucial to fostering a culture of mutual understanding, respect and peaceful coexistence. We stand in solidarity with our fellow pandit community in Kashmir and all over. We urge all segments of society to condemn these atrocities in the strongest possible terms and to join hands in building a more inclusive, equitable and harmonious nation.
