| CRPF troopers booked for murder | | |

Srinagar, March 19: The Jammu and Kashmir police today filed a case against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel for allegedly killing a civilian in his home in Pulwama district even as the Force ordered a court of inquiry and placed four of its personnel under suspension.
"Police has filed a case under section 302 against CRPF personnel for killing a civilian in his home last night and has asked the Force to hand over the men involved for an identification parade before the victim's kin," official sources said today.
They said the step was taken to cool the tempers of the villagers who are up in arms against the force personnel demanding punishment to those involved in the killing of the civilian without any provocation.
"We have ordered a court of inquiry into the incident", CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi told PTI today. He said four personnel including an assistant Commandant S P Chaturvedi have been placed under suspension to facilitate the inquiry.
Earlier today, the J&K government asked the CRPF to hand over to police all those involved in the killing and directed the cops to file a case of murder against them.
While conducting a search in Keygam village late last night, CRPF personnel fired at and killed a carpenter Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Malik (30) sparking massive street protests by local residents.
The body of the victim has not been buried yet as the villagers refused to do so till action is initiated against the guilty, the sources said.
Malik who was bringing fodder for cattle from the upper storey of his house was allegedly shot dead by the CRPF personnel who entered his house even as the inmates of the house pleaded that he was not a militant.
Villagers alleged that the CRPF personnel were on evening patrol and shot dead Malik without any provocation.
Tripathi had told PTI last night that a CRPF patrol had gone to the village for searches on specific information about the presence of two militants in the village.
Accompanied by the Numberdar (village head), the patrol was fired upon by militants and the fire was returned, he said, adding that during a search of the area later on, the body of a civilian was recovered. A mobile in damaged condition was also found but no arms and ammunition were recovered.
Meanwhile, senior Peoples Democratic Party leader and MLA from Rajpora assembly constituency Syed Bashir Ahmad visited the village and persuaded the agitators to arrange burial of Malik, sources said.
Ahmad, a former minister, assured the agitators that his party will leave no stone unturned to get the matter investigated and to hand down punishment to those guilty, the sources said.
