Kuldeep Raj Wattal assumes charge as chairman of CEPC

JAMMU, Aug 3: Today, Kuldeep Raj Wattal has been appointed as the interim Chairman of the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) by O/o Development Commissioner Handicrafts vide their order No. M-11013/120/2023-24/CEPC/42 dated 01, August 2024 with immediate effect and until further orders.
Kuldeep Raj Wattal took over the Charge of Chairman CEPC in the forenoon of 3rd August, 2024. Wattal, a veteran of the Carpet and Rugs industry, has previously served as the Chairman of CEPC twice (in the years 2001-2003 & 2014-2017). His vast experience and profound knowledge of the industry are expected to significantly contribute to the growth and export of carpets and rugs. Wattal assured his full dedication to fulfilling his responsibilities and promises. He stated, "My priority is to work diligently towards the council's objectives, aiming to enhance the growth and development of the Handmade Carpet and Rugs Industry. With the support of my Colleagues in COA and in collaboration with the Govt of India, I am confident we can achieve great success for the industry." Wattal outlined key industry issues he plans to address, including the interest subvention scheme, a special PLI scheme for carpet manufacturers, the revision of Drawback / RoDTEP rates, issues related to the J&K carpet industry, and the long-pending GST rates issue in the carpet industry. He emphasized that with the support of the Office of the Development Commissioner Handicrafts, the industry will witness significant growth. Wattal expressed his gratitude to all COA members of CEPC and especially to Amirt Raj, Development Commissioner Handicrafts, for their trust in entrusting him with this position.
