Kavinder bats for breaking nexus between drug mafia, cops
8/3/2024 10:14:43 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 3: Senior BJP leader and former deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has urged the government to break the nexus between the drug mafia and the employees of various government departments especially the police.
In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP stalwart leader said that the ouster of six employees on the charges of anti-national activities is just the tip of an iceberg as the problem is gigantic and needs special focus of the government to identify the black sheep and take all such elements to task under the law of the land. He also said that the drug trade is being extensively used for generating funds for abetting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kavinder alleged that it is an open secret that a lot of people while remaining in the government service are running the drug mafia and many others are the part and parcel of these drug cartels.
The senior BJP leader also alleged that there are several colonies in the outskirts of Jammu City like Bahu Fort area, Rajeev Nagar, etc where people have been brazenly indulging in Satta and there is a free-for-all situation as far as the availability of the drugs including Chitta, heroin, etc is concerned. He said that all this is happening under the nose of police but there are certain entities in the government departments especially the police, which somehow are extending tacit support to all these illegal activities as was proved in the case of six employees terminated for their shabby role in thriving the illegal drug trade.
Kavinder said that despite people approaching the police department regarding availability of drugs and other illegal activities in the aforesaid areas, the cops show no or very little interest in acting against such complaints making it evident that all is not well inside this department.
The former Deputy Chief Minister urged the government not to take things lightly, as a small spark, if neglected, can burn the entire house in no time.
