Jammu, Aug 6: Amid reports that Congress is going to give the mandate to a national leader on the Bishnah reserved Assembly segment, local Congress leaders warned against imposing a parachute candidate.
“A leader, who has never worked in the Bishnah assembly segment, is claiming the party mandate is in his pocket”, senior leader and district secretary of Congress, Devraj Bhagat while addressing media, along with senior leaders, said.
“How can a leader who never worked in this Assembly segment and is unaware of the topography of this area claim himself as party candidate?”, Bhagat asked and warned that imposing a parachute candidate would be proved disastrous for the party in the Assembly polls.
After Congress retrieved its lost ground in Bishnah Assembly segment in the recently held Lok Sabha elections some Jammu-based leaders have started staking claim on this seat where BJP’s lead has come down to only 4736 votes.

A leader, who has never worked in the Bishnah assembly segment, is claiming the party mandate is in his pocket.
How can a leader who is unaware of this area claim himself to be a party candidate?
Imposing a parachute candidate would prove disastrous for the party in the Assembly polls.
40,000 votes in the 2019 elections and this time the victory margin has reduced to just 4736 votes.
“What is the fun of holding posts of the party if the central leadership would not consult us before finalizing candidate on the Bishnah assembly segment?”, he asked and warned the party leadership against ignoring grassroots workers.
The leaders claimed that party candidate Raman Bhalla got over 42000 votes which was the result of the hard work of the grassroots workers who worked with dedication and commitment.
“At the time of deciding party mandate, these committed workers should also be taken into confidence”, he said.
Important to mention here that a national-level Congress leader has started working in the Bishnah assembly segment which has been reserved as per the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission.
Claiming that he has the blessing of the Congress high command, this leader repeatedly announcing that getting the party mandate for Bishnah Assembly segment is an easy game for him.
