| Jourian demands tehsil status. | | | Jammu/ Sept.21: The Joint Action Committee Jourian today condemned the decision of the state government for not including town Jourian in the list of tehsils and demanded for granting it the status of Tehsil. Addressing a press conference here today, president Municipal Committee Jorian, Devinder Singh Chib said that town Jourian has already been recommended by the Wazir Commission in its report. He appealed to the CM of the state to take immediate action in this regard. It is pertinent to mention here that a rally was also held people of Jorian demanding status for tehsil, under the leadership of MLA Akhnoor, Sham Lal Sharma. “Jourian was made Niyats in the year 1962 and all the niyats of those periods have been upgraded except Jourian” said block president BJP Akhnoor Anand Singh. Meanwhile, Councellor MC Jorian said that the report of Wazir Commission of 1983 was in the favour of Jorian and it was also in the manifesto of the Indian National Congress in the Assembly elections of 2002 but when Congress came into the power, Jourian was ignored during the implementation of Wazir Commission Meanwhile, senior vice president BCCI Akhnoor said that town Jourian is being ignored since long with result people of Jourian and its adjoining areas have a great resentment. He further added that if their demand were ignored they would go to the court for their right and if no sympathetic action were taken, compulsively they would choose agitation path. . Among others who spoke on the occasion were general secretary NSUI, S. Manjeet Singh, President NC Jorian Rollu Singh Chib.etc.
