BJP MP Khatana hails Waqf Boards amendments for greater transparency

JAMMU, Aug 8: In a scathing critique of the opposition's decades-long deceit, Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Er Gulam Ali Khatana has fervently endorsed the Union Government's decision to amend the Waqf Boards. Khatana's remarks highlight the BJP's call for increased transparency and accountability in Waqf property management, accusing the Congress Party of historic exploitation and neglect that has left the Muslim community disadvantaged.
"Nations are built on the pillars of inclusiveness and equal opportunity," said Khatana, highlighting the inclusive vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Narendra Modi Ji is the Prime Minister of 1.4 billion Indians. He believes in inclusiveness and wants every citizen to contribute to nation-building. The Waqf Boards own vast properties which, if properly utilized, can significantly improve the lives of millions of Muslims who remain disadvantaged."
Khatana didn't mince words when addressing the opposition's role in the mismanagement of Waqf properties. "The opposition, especially the Congress Party, has historically used Waqf Board properties for personal gain rather than for the welfare of the Muslim community. This misuse has left a large section of Muslims in a state of backwardness," he asserted. "The properties of the Waqf Boards could have been instrumental in uplifting underprivileged Muslims, but due to the misrule and negligence of the Congress, this potential has remained largely untapped."
Emphasizing the Modi Government's commitment to societal upliftment, Khatana stated, "The Modi Government is tirelessly working for the betterment of Indian society, irrespective of caste, color, region, or religion. Modi Ji's belief in inclusiveness is evident in the numerous initiatives aimed at opening avenues for every Indian. He envisions a prosperous future for Muslims and strives for the betterment of future generations."
The Centre is expected to introduce the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aims to enhance the accountability and transparency of Waqf Boards. Key provisions of the bill include the mandatory inclusion of women in the boards, a move that Khatana believes will bring a much-needed change in the governance of Waqf properties.
"The inclusion of women in Waqf Boards is a progressive step. It not only ensures gender equality but also brings diverse perspectives into the management of these properties," said Khatana. "This amendment is a testament to the government's commitment to transparency and accountability."
"The opposition's resistance to these amendments is not surprising. However, the truth is that these changes are necessary for the betterment of the community. The Modi Government's policies are designed to ensure that the benefits of Waqf properties reach those who need them the most," Khatana concluded.
