Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 9 : In a commendable effort to promote cleanliness and hygiene, the “Veerangan” NSS Unit of Govt. College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, organized a cleanliness drive on the college campus as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada initiative. The drive was held under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, and aimed at contributing towards the vision of Swachh Bharat, making the college a cleaner and healthier place to study.
The initiative saw active participation from the entire student community, who, along with NSS volunteers, enthusiastically engaged in cleaning four classrooms and the browsing center of the college. The students also raised slogans of “Swachh Bharat Shresth Bharat,” showing their commitment to the cause.
Prof. Nisha Bhagat, IQAC Convenor, highlighted the crucial link between cleanliness (Swachhta) and health during the drive. She emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is not just about keeping the surroundings tidy, but also about fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental care among students. “Cleanliness is a fundamental requirement for a healthy community,” she stated, adding that consistent efforts in maintaining cleanliness can significantly impact the environment and serve as a model for the broader community.
The entire event was organized by Dr. Preeti Salathia, NSS Program Officer, who urged students to incorporate cleanliness into their daily routines. She pointed out that such habits could help reduce diseases, cut down on medical expenses, and promote overall health.
The drive was a significant step towards achieving the dream of a Swachh Bharat, reflecting the dedication and zeal of the college community in contributing to a cleaner and more hygienic India.
