BD Mishra lays foundation stone of RDSS projects in Ladakh

JAMMU, Aug 10: In an impressive ceremony held today at Raj Niwas, Leh, Lieutenant Governor, Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) laid Foundation Stone of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) projects in the Union Territory of Ladakh in the august presence of Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/ Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Advisor to Lt. Governor, Ladakh, R.K. Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited and Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Power Development Department, UT of Ladakh, Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, Deputy commissioner, Leh, Senior officers from Ladakh District administration, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Power Development Department UT of Ladakh and other important departments were also present on this occasion.
Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme is a Reforms-Based and Result-Linked scheme of Govt of India for improving the health of Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) . This scheme aims to make DISCOMs operationally efficient and financially sustainable. Total outlay of this scheme is Rs.3 lakh crore with Budgetary Support of Rs 97,631 Cr . Ultimate goal is improvement in the quality, reliability and affordability of power supply to consumers . Ladakh UT got approval of schemes worth Rs. 862.84 Cr. with Gross budgetary Support from Govt of India for Rs. 776.56 Cr. Balance funding of Rs. 86.28 Cr shall be funded by Ladakh UT.
The implementation of RDSS Loss Reduction works in the UT of Ladakh has been entrusted to Power Grid Energy Services Ltd(PESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd . Implementation of these works shall result into availability of grid connected reliable power to all over Ladakh. This will also make the goal of Carbon free Ladakh one step ahead.
R.K.Tyagi, CMD POWERGRID in his address reiterated POWERGRID's commitment for the sustained development of Ladakh's power infrastructure. He emphasized on the fact that POWERGRID is ensuring that every corner of this beautiful region has access to reliable and quality power. He termed the ceremony as a significant milestone in POWERGRID's journey towards achieving this goal and assured the audience that POWERGRID will not leave any stone unturned to make this project a grand success
Lieutenant Governor during his address on this occasion intimated that Ladakh administration is firm in its resolve for practical, pragmatic and viable solution to strengthen power infrastructure in UT of Ladakh. He impressed upon POWERGRID to complete these projects in time bound manner so that every household in Ladakh is able to enjoy the benefits of quality power.
Rajesh Kumar, Executive Director, POWERGRID, Northern Region-II in his welcome address explained the highlights of the proposed scheme and threw light on the works that POWERGRID is undertaking in Ladakh region.
