LG releases book titled "Common Property Resources and Sustainable Rural Livelihoods"

JAMMU, Aug 10: LG Manoj Sinha today released a book titled "Common Property Resources and Sustainable Rural Livelihoods". The book is jointly authored by Dr. Jai Prakash Verma, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu and Prof. Vinod Kumar Srivastava, Department of Economics and Rural Development, Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Vineet Kumar Srivastava, Director and Executive Assistant to Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Central Office, Mumbai has written the foreword of the book.
The Lt Governor congratulated and extended his best wishes to the authors. He said that the book will guide many people to work in this line. "The book is well researched and the research findings presented in the book highlight the critical issues with regard to demographic composition, livelihood sources, land ownership patterns, agricultural practices, and utilisation of common property resources among forest communities. The research findings will serve as a benchmark for people working for the welfare of tribal population, not only in Uttar Pradesh, but also across the Country, said Lt. Governor.
The book release function was held at Raj Bhawan, Jammu in presence of Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu, Prof.(Dr.) K.G. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Jammu, Shri Mahendra Tiwari, Resident Editor, Amar Ujala, Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh.
This book explores CPRs' role in livelihood development in tribal villages of Uttar Pradesh, examining policy frameworks, socio-economic profiles and resource utilization patterns. The book would be very useful for students in understanding the socio-economic and environmental challenges facing forest communities and the need for community participation impressing sustainable resource management.
