Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 21- Highlighting the socio-psychological rift among the family members of upper middle class societies in metropolitan cities whose members move to green pastures in search of better job opportunities, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar brings a new series of sop opera based on broken –families and shattered relationships.
‘Gharonda Toota Jaaye’ -a family drama based on the life of a divorced woman Ekta who takes cudgels with her in-laws to get her son back is the story of a woman who struggles for her entire life and faces hardships for welfare and upbringing of her son Rohit only to be left in lurch by the later.
Underlining the huge demands of the contemporary globalized society where relations and emotions take a back seat and get replaced with priorities for career and money, the drama portrays the nature of self-centricity of today’s youth who move to foreign countries for better perks and a high profile in the materialistic society while leaving their aged parents behind only to fend for themselves.
According to the officials of DDK Srinagar, the drama though set in a metropolitan Indian city is very much relevant to the present scenario of Kashmir where a huge number of youngsters are working in foreign countries with most of them settled in Europe and Gulf countries and their parents waiting for their return since ages.
“Nowadays the situation has become very common in Kashmir. More than half of the families from upper middle class societies have their children working in foreign countries. Well there is nothing wrong to aim for better status in life however a person should not forget his parents who toil hard for his better education and upbringing and deserve to be taken care off well by their children at the fag end of their life and not to be left alone,” said Dr Rafeeq Masoodi Producer/ Director of the family opera.
While sharing his experience and inspiration behind the drama, Dr Masoodi said “The idea of conceiving this drama came form my daughter Ashaq Masoodi who is pursuing a degree in mass communication at Delhi. Moreover the theme of the drama is very much inculcated into the present socio-cultural context of Kashmir.”
Explaining that with the reach of DD Kashir in around 150 countries Dr Masoodi said that the drama can serve as a wake up call to those hundreds and thousands of NRK`s (Non-Resident Kashmiris) who are putting up in several European and Gulf countries.
Rahul Sharma who has written the story and dialogues of the family saga said that besides focusing on the social customs and materialistic lifestyle, the drama talks about the huge sacrifices of E kta for her snobbish son Rohit who leaves his ailing and divorced mother back home and prefers to settle in a foreign country.
