International Youth Day celebrated at PSPS GCW Gandhinagar

JAMMU, Aug 12: On the observance of International Youth Day, Red Ribbon Club, PSPS, Govt. College For Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu in collaboration J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), Health & Medical Education Dept. organized Debate Competition & Placards-Making Competition on 9th of August, 2024. In this connection a Walkthon/Run of 2 Kms was held on 12th of August, 2024 for the Promotion of National Toll Free Helpline: 1097.
The debate competition aims to engage young minds in thoughtful discourse on the theme, The Role of Youth in HIV/AIDS Control & Prevention. The participants expressed their views, fostering a deeper understanding of how youth can contribute in combating the HIV/AIDS through education, activism and peer support for the innovative solution. The first prize winner was Sanjeevani Bhardwaj, second Barnika, third position was shared by Arushi Sharma and Palak Meenia.
In conjunction with the debate competition, a Placard-Making contest was held in which participants expressed their thoughts and messages on the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The first winner was Palak Meenia, second Sakshi Devi & third position was secured by Rukhsana Kousar. The members of Jury were Dr. Archana Bakshi , HOD English, Dr. Suman Bala Sharma, HOD Botany, Dr. Anupama Pandotra. A Walkathon was flag off by chief guest, Dr. Manu Bhatnagar and Guest of Honor, Dr. S.P. Saraswat, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division Colleges at 9:15 am, where participants marched together, holding their placards, to raise awareness among youth and to inspire to join fight against HIV/AIDS.
The event culminated with beautiful Cultural Program & Saraswati Vandana, by the students of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Folk dance by AIDS Control Society. Welcome address was given by Dr.Samriti Aggarwal, Convener of Red Ribbon Club & Head Dept. of Zoology. Dr. Samriti Aggarwal honour the chief guest, Dr. Manu Bhatnagar, Rakesh Khajuria, Asstt. Director IEC honour the Guest of Honor, Dr. S.P. Saraswat, Dr. Shakun Mahajan, Dept. of English, honour Madan Lal, Deputy Director, Finance JKACS, Health and Medical Education, Rajesh Sharma, Asstt. Director, Youth Affairs, honor Dr. Samriti Aggarwal, Nodal Officer Red Ribbon Club, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu by presenting the planters. Certificates were given to the Winners by the chief guest and other Dignitaries. Chief guest, Dr. Manu Bhatnagar addressed the audience in which she acknowledged the significant role that youth can play in the fight against HIV/AIDS. She emphasized that young people, being the most dynamic and adaptable section of society, are powerful advocates for policies that promote better access healthcare and to prioritize HIV prevention programs and resources. Nodal Principal, Dr. S.P. Saraswat in his address, reiterated the youth to take on leadership roles in the control & prevention of HIV/AIDS. By doing so they can inspire others and create a ripple effect of positive change. Their energy, creativity and commitment are vital to achieving a future free of HIV/AIDS. Vote of thanks was given by Rakesh Sharma, Asstt. Director, Youth Affairs.
