| Gupta demands probe into misuse of funds on unplanned digging of roads | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 21- Voicing his concern over the digging of roads and lanes in the capital city as also elsewhere without any proper planning, the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, has demanded independent probe by some agency so as to pin point the responsibility for this wastage of hard earned money of the poor exchequer. In a statement issued here today, Prof. Gupta said that people in this city and some other places, are faced with traffic hazards and other problems due to digging and laying of sewerage pipes which is going on for the last couple of months. He said the enquiries reveal that there is no proper planning and the works are being allotted in a mysterious manner. There are also reports that crores of rupees have already been spent for lying of the pipes during the past years, he added and observed that there was no proper planning or scheme of things to complete the Sewerage Project up to Bhagwati Nagar where the Sewerage plants are to be installed. In this regard, Prof. Gupta also pointed out that it was about three decades back Master Plan was chalked out to improve the supply of drinking water in this capital city with the loud promises of availability of tape waters round the clock but what has gone wrong with this Master Plan after huge spending, nobody knows. There are reliable reports that in many cases the huge pipes buried in the bazaars and streets are without any use and thus crores of rupees have been wasted without any benefit, he added and stressed for proper enquiry in the matter. Referring to the recent CAG report, the BJP leader said this exposes the claims of the Congressmen of good governance during the Ghulam Nabi Azad led dispensation and also reveals that how hundreds of crores were spent without proper budgeting and indulging in financial indiscipline and bungling. All this needed probing that where the Central funds are being spent with what results, Prof. Gupta stressed.
