Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, organizes plantation drive

JAMMU, Aug 13: The NSS unit "Veerangana" of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, in collaboration with Rotary Club Jammu, organized a meaningful plantation drive in the college campus and at the adopted school, Hermann Gmeiner Jammu. The event, held under the patronage of Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College, was part of the initiative "Ek Paed Maa Ke Naam," aimed at raising environmental awareness among students.
The drive sought to educate students about the critical importance of tree plantation in addressing major environmental challenges such as global warming, soil erosion, and pollution. Trees, which act as natural filters by absorbing harmful gases and releasing oxygen, play a crucial role in creating a healthier and more conducive learning environment.
The plantation drive involved the planting of saplings both at the adopted school, Hermann Gmeiner Jammu, and on the college campus. Key participants included Balvinder Singh, President of Rotary Club; Anamika, Secretary; Dr. Ranjeet Jamwal, Project Officer of the Plantation Drive; Ramnik Singh; Vikas; along with students and faculty members of the school and college, all of whom showed great zeal and enthusiasm. A total of around 50 saplings were planted during the event.
As part of the initiative, students adopted the saplings and took a pledge to nurture them, contributing to a sustainable and healthier environment. Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the College, emphasized the significance of such plantation drives, stating that they play a vital role in creating a better and safer environment. She highlighted the multiple benefits of tree planting, including air purification, water conservation, climate control, and soil preservation.
Dr. Abrol also praised the efforts of the NSS Wing volunteers, led by Program Officer (PO) Dr. Preeti Salathia, for their dedication and hard work. She encouraged the students to recognize that even small steps like this can have a lasting impact on preserving the planet and maintaining ecological balance.
