Farooq sabotaged opposition unity to protect himself from JKCA scam, alleges PDP

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 14: As the countdown for Assembly elections has started with the visit of the full team of the Election Commission of India earlier this month, the Peoples’ Democratic Party stepped up its attack on the arch-rival National Conference.
On Wednesday, the PDP charged former Chief Minister and president of the National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah with breaking the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and sabotaging opposition unity in Jammu and Kashmir.
PDP in its social media handle, PDP shared a news item in which it was reported that Dr. Farooq Abdullah got relief in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam.
“This is the reason why the National Conference first broke PAGD then broke an alliance with Congress and now wants to go solo in Assembly Elections. Note: Hint is enough for the wise”, PDP posted while sharing the news item.
Important to mention here that opposition parties raised eyebrows over the decision of Dr. Farooq Abdullah to express his inability to join the opposition meeting which was scheduled to be held on August 7 at Jammu.
Although the National Conference (NC) leadership has remained cautious about recent developments, it is widely believed that the party has opted not to join any opposition bloc in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources indicate that the NC has decided to independently contest the upcoming Assembly elections, without forming alliances with other opposition parties. The party aims to convey several strategic messages by going solo and has already begun the process of selecting candidates for all 90 Assembly seats.
In related news, a meeting of opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir, which was set to address various issues concerning the Union Territory, has been postponed. Senior CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami announced on July 27 that the meeting, originally scheduled for August 7, was delayed due to National Conference president Farooq Abdullah's inability to attend. The gathering was intended to discuss topics such as the increased delegation of powers to the Lieutenant Governor.
