Jammu Mar 21: Special Olympics Bharat of J&K chapter with the sole motive to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fir, productive and respected members of the society through sports and competition hold an interaction session with media persons here today.
Organizes of the Olympics on the occasions said that special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year round training and competition in 30 Olympic type summer and winter sports. The mission of Special Olympics Healthy Athletes developed in 1996 is to improve Athletes’ ability to lead a graceful life by competing in Special Olympics as experienced and improved well being. Special Olympics Healthy Athletes initiative includes the disciplines. Fit, Feet, fun Fitness, Healthy Hearing, Health Promotion, Opening Eyes, Med Fast and Special smiles which continues to expand rapidly around the globe and flourishing in India under the able guidance of National Chairman Air Marshall (Retd) Danzin Keelor and National Director Gp Capt (Retd) Colly De Souza and the team in bringing smiles on the faces of J&K Special Olympics Athletes with the selfless efforts of Special Olympics Bharat J&K Chapter.
Special Focus of deliberations is “ SPECIAL SMILES”.For the millions of people worldwide with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities, dental care is often not a top priority and takes a back seat to more pressing medical issues but since its inception in 1993, Special Olympics Special Smiles has demonstrated remarkable success in its vision: increasing access to dental care for Special Olympics Athletes, as well as all people with intellectual disabilities.
One of the primary objectives of Special Smiles is to increase the number of dental professionals who will serve people with intellectual disabilities in their practices and clinics. This is accomplished by encouraging dental students, as well practicing dentists, to conduct screening at Special Smiles events.
