Fraudsters circulating fake notices to cheat innocent PDD consumers
8/16/2024 9:59:19 AM

Jammu, August 14: Although the J&K Power Development Department (JKPDD) has repeatedly warned consumers against fake messages, some fraudsters are circulating fraud notices and this notice has created fear among people.

In these notices, it is warned that the power connection will be disconnected in case the consumer fails to clear the pending bill tonight.

The PDD has repeatedly issued warnings to consumers about fraudulent messages being sent to consumers, falsely instructing them to clear “pending bills.”

These fake messages, which are being circulated on WhatsApp under the guise of the power department, claim that consumers' electricity connections will be disconnected due to an “un-updated previous month bill.”

The messages also direct consumers to contact an “electricity officer” regarding the issue. However, the JKPDD has clarified that these messages are scams and has urged consumers to be cautious of such deceptive communications.

The JKPDD advised consumers not to respond to any communication unless it includes their Consumer Name and ID.

Scammers are sending fake text messages and WhatsApp notifications, falsely claiming that electricity will be disconnected due to unpaid bills.

These deceptive messages often appear to come from the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) or the J&K Power Development Department, complete with official logos. However, these messages are entirely fraudulent and are designed to mislead and defraud electricity consumers.

The JKPDD officers cautioned the public to disregard any text or WhatsApp messages that claim to be from the Ministry of Power, KPDCL, or J&K PDD.

The emphasized that electricity disconnections are managed by DISCOMs and that they do not send such messages. Therefore, any message threatening disconnection should be considered a scam.

Consumers are strongly advised to remain vigilant and to ignore any suspicious messages regarding their electricity bills or supply. For any concerns or queries, they should directly contact their local power distribution office.
