Early Times Report LADAKH, Aug 19: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, in collaboration with the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) and under the aegis of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, inaugurated the tenth batch of its Capacity Building Program on Small Business Development Units (SBDUs) at the University of Ladakh campus. This program marks a significant step in fostering entrepreneurial empowerment in the region. The event, which took place on August 19, 2024, was graced by Ms. Padma Angmo, IIS, Commissioner/Secretary of Technical Education and Skill Development, UT of Ladakh, who acknowledged the efforts of IIM Jammu and applauded the innovative ideas of the 62 participants, with a special mention of the active participation of women. She highlighted the program's potential to drive gender equity and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of Ladakh. Presiding over the event online, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, emphasized the importance of the program, particularly in the context of the recently approved Project YUVA (Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan) by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative aims to create 1.37 lakh enterprises and generate 4.25 lakh jobs over the next five years, with significant budgetary support. Prof. Sahay reiterated IIM Jammu's commitment to turning Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh into hubs of entrepreneurship and employment, aligning with the Union Budget 2024-25 and the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create 4 crore jobs across India. The inauguration ceremony featured notable speakers, including Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics at IIM Jammu, who discussed the evolution of the SBDU program and its critical role in building an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Union Territories. Dr. Mahesh Gadekar, Chairperson of the Centre for Small Business Development at IIM Jammu, welcomed the participants and set the tone for a transformative journey. The event also included introductions from the participants, offering a glimpse into their diverse backgrounds and aspirations. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vijay Prabhagar, Program Director of the Capacity Building Program, followed by the national anthem, symbolizing the unity and collective aspirations of the participants.
