Jammu, Aug 20: Within hours after the party leadership announced mandates for candidates for the Assembly elections, the Peoples’ Democratic Party faced defection as three senior leaders resigned from the party.
Parliamentary Board of the PDP has cleared names of 13 candidates for the first phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP has announced its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Among the prominent names is Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who will be contesting from the Bijbehara Assembly segment.
Other candidates fielded by the PDP include Ab Rehman Veeri for Anantnag East, Sartaj Ahmad Madani for Devsar, Dr Mehboob Beg for Anantnag, Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura for Charisharief, Gh Mohi-ud-din Wani for Watchi, Waheed-ur Rehman Parra for Pulwama, Rafiq Ahmad Naik for Tral, Abdul Gaffar Sofi from Anantnag West, Dr Shabiq Sadiqui from Pahalgam, Sheikh Nasir Hussain
Within hours after the party leadership announced mandates the PDP faced defection as three senior leaders resigned from the party.
Dr. Harbaksh Singh from Tral, Aijaz Mir, a former PDP legislator, Suhail Bukhari, PDP chief spokesperson said goodbye to the party.
Suhail had hoped to run as a candidate for the Wagoora-Kreeri constituency, but his chances diminished with the return of Basharat Bukhari to the PDP last month
PDP has cleared the names of 13 candidates for the first phase of Assembly elections in J&K.
Inderwal, Sandesh Mahajan Paddar-Nagsani and Ghulam Ahmad Dar D H Pora.
After the party announced the candidate for Tral Assembly segment, Dr. Harbaksh Singh, a senior leader and DDC member from Tral, resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and officially joined the Awami Itihad Party (AIP) headed by newly elected Lok Sabha member Engineer Rashid.
In Zainpora, Aijaz Mir, a former PDP legislator, has also resigned from the party. Mir expressed his shock at the party's decision to deny him a mandate from the Wachi assembly segment.
Meanwhile, Suhail Bukhari, the chief spokesperson of the PDP, has also quit the party. It is reported that Bukhari was disappointed after not receiving the mandate to contest in the upcoming elections. He had hoped to run as a candidate for the Wagoora-Kreeri constituency, but his chances diminished with the return of former minister Basharat Bukhari to the PDP last month. Speculation suggests that Suhail may soon join Engineer Rashid’s AIP.
