| Nearly 40,000 employees to be deployed for poll-duty in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, March 22: Nearly 40,000 state government employees will be deployed for poll-related duties in Jammu and Kashmir, which goes to polls in five phases starting from April 16.
"We have drawn up nearly 40,000 government employees from various departments for poll-related duties. All of them have been issued letters in this direction," state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B R Sharma said.
He said that most of them were already on duty in the recently-held assembly polls in the state.
"Employees would get incentives for poll-related duties on the pattern of assembly elections," Sharma said, adding that the employees had worked well in organising free and fair assembly polls.
There are around 65,11,638 voters in the state and there will be an addition of 1.32 Lakh voters in Lok Sabha polls this time.
"Around 9,077 polling stations will be set up with each having about 4-5 poll employees. The poll staff is already trained," he said.
Polling in Jammu constituency will be held on April 16 during the first phase and notification in this regard would be issued tomorrow.
March 30 would be the last date for filing nominations, March 31 would be the date to scrutinise the nominations and April 2 is the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers.
For Udhampur constituency, going to polls in the second phase on April 23, notification will be issued on March 28, April 4 is the date of filing nominations, April 6 would be the date of scrutiny and April 8 last date for withdrawal of nominations.
Polling in Anantnag constituency will be held on April 30 in the third phase, notification will be issued on April 2, last date for making nominations is April 9, scrutiny of nomination on April 10 and last date of withdrawal of candidature is April 15.
Srinagar will go to polls on May 7 during the fourth phase and April 11 will be the date of issuance of notification. The last date for filing nomination papers is April 18, date of scrutiny of nominations is April 20 and last date of withdrawal of nominations is April 22.
In the fifth and final phase of the Lok Sabha polls on May 13.
Baramulla and Ladakh parliamentary constituencies are scheduled to go to polls for which April 17 is the date of issuance of notification, April 24 last date for filing nominations, April 25 is the date of scrutiny of nominations and April 27 last date of withdrawal of candidature.
