SKUAST organizes Parthenium Awareness Programme

JAMMU, Aug 21: AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with KVK Samba organized Parthenium awareness campaign on 21th of August, 2024 at Calivary Mission High School Samba in which a large number of participants actively participated.
Dr Sanjay Khajuria. Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba graced the occasion as a chief guest and appreciated the AICRP Team for reaching out Samba for their mission on parthenium eradication.
Dr. B. R. Bazaya, Chief Scientist and Principal Investigator, AICRP Weed Management, SKUAST-Jammu highlighted in the details about harmful effects of Parthenium weed on the human health and crop biodiversity. He also highlighted various harmful effects of Parthenium like dermatitis and allergies in both humans and animals health. He advised to school students and staff to start vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium completely from their premises.
Dr. Jai Kumar, Chief Scientist Agronomy ACRA, Dhiansar and todays special guest briefed in detail about the various latest control measures to overcome the problem of parthenium. He also lead the campaign for uprooting the parthenium in the school premises. Dr. Manpreet Kour, Senior Scientist and Co-PI, AICRP Weed Management suggested various chemical as well as physical control measures for the management of parthenium in the rainy season.
Dr. Amit Mahajan conducted the proceedings of the programme and also gave some tips to the participants for eradication of the parthenium. Pawandeep Kour Young Professional also deliberated about the menace and control of parthenium. Pardeep, Chairman of the school thanked the SKUAST Jammu for choosing their school for this event. Chanda, Principal of the School extended the vote of thanks.
