Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 21: Ram Madhav, a national executive member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and key architect of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) historic victory in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, has been recalled by the BJP to oversee the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory.
Madhav, who was previously called back by the RSS from the BJP in 2021, has since been active on various platforms, including leading the India Foundation, an independent think-tank that focuses on the issues, challenges, and opportunities within Indian polity.
With the campaign for the Assembly elections now underway following the issuance of the notification for the first phase, the BJP has appointed Ram Madhav as the election in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy will serve alongside him in this capacity.
An official order issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh confirmed the appointments. The statement noted, "BJP national president JP Nadda has appointed Ram Madhav, former national general secretary, and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy as election in-charge for the upcoming assembly polls

During his tenure as BJP national general secretary from 2014 to 2020, Madhav managed political affairs in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and other Northeastern states. Under his leadership, the BJP secured 25 seats in the 87-member Assembly in 2014, marking a significant victory for the party. Madhav also played a crucial role in forging the alliance between the BJP and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the wake of the fractured mandate.
Despite his notable contributions, Madhav was removed from JP Nadda’s team in 2020. Originally from Andhra Pradesh, he was inducted into the BJP by the RSS in 2014, shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office. In a reshuffle on September 26, 2020, Madhav and several other general secretaries were replaced by new faces. However, six months later, the RSS brought Madhav back into the fold, reaffirming his importance within the party.
