Three-day course on "Human Rights & Criminal Justice System" concludes

UDHAMPUR, Aug 22: The Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) in Udhampur successfully concluded a three-day intensive course on "Human Rights & Criminal Justice System" today. The course brought together 15 officers from various divisions of the Jammu & Kashmir Police for an in-depth exploration of human rights within the context of criminal justice.
The training program covered a wide array of topics, including the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India, key United Nations declarations such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The course also addressed pressing issues related to vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
The course featured lectures and discussions led by a distinguished panel of speakers. Among them were Shri Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, Deputy Director SKPA; Shri Kamal Sharma, Deputy Director Prosecution from CID Headquarters; Dr. Mahesh Koul, Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR) New Delhi and Assistant Professor at SKUAST Jammu; Dr. Savita Nayyar from the Department of Law, University of Jammu; Shri Sheikh Shakeel, Advocate, High Court Jammu; and Advocate Supriya Choudhan, High Court Jammu. Their insights and experiences provided valuable learning opportunities for the participants.
The course culminated in a valedictory function at the Academy, with Shri Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, Director (Indoor), serving as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Gupta highlighted the critical importance of adhering to human rights standards in law enforcement. He emphasized the need for officers to incorporate these principles when managing law and order situations, conducting investigations, and during interrogations. Shri Gupta also encouraged the participants to disseminate the knowledge and insights gained during the course to their colleagues, fostering a culture of human rights awareness and respect within the police force.
The course was efficiently coordinated by Shri Sandeep Mahajan, Inspector, with the assistance of SI Irshad Ahmad, a faculty member at SKPA, ensuring a smooth and successful training program.
