Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 24: The 7th Edition of the Jodhamal Youth Conclave (JYC) began on August 23, 2024, at the Jodhamal Public School campus. This three-day event gathers some of the best schools from across India to simulate United Nations proceedings, where participants engage in discussions on a variety of agenda across multiple committees. JYC, initiated by Jodhamal Public School, aims to enhance students' awareness of the rapidly evolving geopolitical, social, and environmental issues.
The Inaugural Ceremony of JYC'24 sparked enthusiasm in the Multipurpose Hall of Jodhamal Public School. The Chief Guest for the event was Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Former Foreign Secretary of India and the Chief Coordinator of India's G20 Presidency. He delivered his keynote to the participants through video mode. The ceremony began with the lighting of the sacred lamp, followed by handing over gavels to the Chairpersons of the various Committees. Principal, Girish Kumar delivered a welcome address, and Aviral Kapoor, the Secretary General of JYC'24, officially declared the Conference open.
This year, more than 400 delegates, observers and guests from prominent Schools of Jammu and vicinity are taking part in the Conclave. The participating schools include: K C Public School, KC International School, GD Goenka Public School, Jammu Sanskriti School, JK Public School, Presentation Convent School, Delhi Public School, Udhampur, apart from the host school, Jodhamal Public School, Jammu.
The student-leadership team for JYC'24 includes Aviral Kapoor as Secretary General, Navaj Kunal Anand as Director General, Moksh Sharma as Convenor, Soham Magazine as Chargé d'affaires, Shaurya Jamwal as President, Mayara Aul as USG Outreach, Rohan Langer as USG Logistics, Krishika Koul as USG Delegate Affairs, Rebecca Verma as USG Media, and Raza Ali as USG Operations. As a student-led initiative, the event's success is attributed to the hard work of the students, guided by Conference Director Mrs Anjali Mahajan, along with teachers Mubeen Butt, Raghunandan Singh, and Pooja Sharma.
JYC stands out as a platform created by students, for students, and led by students. It not only encourages debates, discussions, and diplomacy, but also fosters lasting friendships and connections among students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The theme for this year's Conclave is "Excessus Virtutis Vitium Est" which translates in: Excess of Virtue is a Vice.
All participants have been allotted different Committees, each with its own agenda addressing both national and international issues. The six Committees for JYC 2024 and their agenda are: 1) Lok Sabha: "Deliberating upon measures of decoloniality in India post-independence." 2) SPECPOL: "Examining instances of colonialism in the contemporary world, with emphasis on the Chinese hegemony in the Asia-Pacific and the Israel-Palestine territorial dispute." 3) International Consortium of Investigative Journalists Special Corps: "Classified." 4) United Nations Women: "Articulation of viable suggestions to combat social barriers and legislative limitations against gender equality with special emphasis on reviewing and implementation of international conventions such as CEDAW and Istanbul Convention." 5) All India Political Parties Meet: "Reviewing electoral reforms with emphasis on The CEC and other Election Commissioners Bill, 2023." 6) International Press: "Photography/Journalism."
The event, spanning three days, will feature rigorous debates, discussions, and diplomatic exchanges across all committees, concluding with a Prize Giving Ceremony on August 25, 2024.
