DPAP release first list of candidates, Saroori’s name missing
Gharwapsi Rumours?
8/25/2024 10:06:09 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 25: Ghulam Mohammad Saroori’s name missing from the first list of candidates issued by the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has raised many eyebrows as rumours are rife that some senior leaders of the party are in touch with the Congress for Gharwapsi.
Although the leadership of the DPAP has maintained a silence over missing Saroori’s name, the issuance of the first list of candidates without the party’s senior leader’s name has fuelled speculations that all is not well in Azad’s party.
A three-time MLA from the Inderwal Assembly segment, Saroori is among the couple of potential leaders of DPAP who can win elections from their respective constituencies.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has put an end to speculations about the party merging with the Congress by releasing the first list of 13 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Candidates Announced
The list, issued by party general secretary RS Chib, includes:
1. Abdul Majid Wani (Doda East)
2. Mohammad Amin Bhat (Devsar)
3. Mohammad Aslam Goni (Bhaderwah)
4. Saleem Parray (Doru)
5. Muneer Ahmed Mir (Lolab)
6. Bilal Ahmed Deva (Anantnag West)
7. Ghulam Nabi Wani (Rajpura)
8. Altaf Hussain (Anantnag)
9. Qasir Sultan Ganai (Ganderbal)
10. Ghulam Nabi Bhat (Eidgah)
11. Amir Ahmed Bhat (Khanayar)
12. Nisar Ahmed Lone (Gurez)
13. Peer Bilal Ahmed (Hazaratbal)
Ghulam Nabi Azad is unlikely to contest the elections, as the party has announced Mohammad Aslam Goni as the candidate for Bhaderwah, Azad's hometown. Bhaderwah has been a stronghold of Azad, who won elections from this constituency in 2006 and 2008. His decision not to contest from Bhaderwah marks a significant development in the party's election strategy.
