| Jammu meets Kathua in hockey final today | | |
Early Times Report JAMMU, March 22: Defending Champion Jammu shall take on district Kathua in the final of ongoing State Hockey Championship organised by J&K Hockey Association at K K Hakhu Stadium, here tomorrow.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, Jammu defeated district Poonch 4-1 while Kathua blanked Baramulla 7-0 in virtually a one-sided contest.
From winners, Jammu district, Sikander Pal Singh scored two goals netting the ball in the 8th and 45th minute while Mandeep Singh sounded the board in the 19th minute. Manjeet Singh converted a penalty stroke into goal in the 49th minute to make it a big win. From Poonch, Sanjeev Kumar reduced the margin converting a penalty corner into goal in the 33rd minute.
In the second semi-final, Kathua blanked Baramulla 7-0. Represented mostly by the young boys from Hiranagar, Kathua dominated the proceedings sparing little opportunity for Baramulla to strike at their goal post in the 70-minute game.
Gourav Singh (10th and 27th), Vikram Singh 912th), Abhinandan Singh (39th and 54th), Varinder Singh (48th) and Jaideep Singh (52nd) were scorers.
The final shall be played tomorrow at 4 pm. In the final and prize distribution function, Director General Vigilance Organisation and Secretary J&K State Sports Council, P S Gill has consented to be the chief guest.
