Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 27: The NSS Unit "Veerangana" of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, recently organized an orientation workshop for its volunteers. The event was held under the guidance of Dr. Meeru Abrol, the Principal of the college.
The workshop began with a welcome speech by Dr. Preeti Salathia, the NSS Programme Officer. She explained the purpose of the NSS units, which were established by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to encourage community service and social responsibility among students. Dr. Salathia also discussed the planned activities for the 2024-25 academic year. Around 72 NSS volunteers participated, engaging in discussions and sharing suggestions to improve future NSS activities.
In addition to the workshop, the college's Electoral Literacy Club, in collaboration with the NSS Unit "Veerangana," held a pledge-taking ceremony. This event aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of voting and encourage responsible participation in the upcoming state elections.
Dr. Meeru Abrol, the Principal, delivered an inspiring message on the significance of voting in a democratic society. She emphasized that every vote plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the state and the nation. Dr. Abrol encouraged students to vote with responsibility and integrity, stressing the importance of making informed decisions based on candidates' policies and qualifications, rather than superficial factors like caste, religion, or language.
Her message aimed to instill a deep sense of civic duty in the students, reminding them that each vote counts and contributes to the collective progress of society.
