| PDP to go alone in the Lok Sabha election | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 22- The PDP has decided to go alone while contesting all the six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Party sources today said "we have not yet taken a final decision but we know it may not be possible for us to hammer out an electoral understanding with any party." The sources explained that contesting election in alliance with the National Conference was out of question and "we cannot join hands with communal forces like the BJP." They said the PDP could have understanding with the Congress but since the Congress shares power with the National Conference, a pre-poll alliance between the Congress and the PDP was impracticable. When asked what had encouraged the PDP leadership to field candidates in all the six Lok Sabha constituencies when in the previous election it had won only the Anantnag seat the party sources said that "it is during the elections, Assembly or Lok Sabha, that a political party gets an opportunity to strengthen its bases in different areas. In reply to another question the party sources said that in the three constituencies in Kashmir Valley, the PDP candidates will have an edge over those belonging to the National Conference. The party sources said that in the valley the main contest will be between the PDP and the National Conference. Referring to the two seats in the Jammu region the party sources said that since the Congress and the BJP will be the main contestants there may be a possibility for the PDP candidates to secure victory in at least one of the two constituencies.
