Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: Government College for Women (GCW) Bhagwati Nagar has taken a significant step in promoting electoral awareness among students with the launch of its new Electoral Literacy Club. The initiative, established under the guidance of the college's Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol, aims to foster a deeper understanding of democratic processes within the student community. Dr. Mosmi Raina has been appointed as the Convenor of the club, with Prof. Gagan Jyoti and Prof. Nisha Bhagat serving as members. In addition, Gurleen Kour and Vanshika Arora, both from Semester 5, have been named the Student Ambassadors of the Electoral Literacy Club.
To mark the club's inauguration, an awareness session was held on August 28, 2024, focusing on the promotion of election-related mobile applications among students. These apps, including the Voter Helpline App, cVIGIL, PWD App, and Know Your Candidate App, are designed to streamline the voting process, improve voter information access, and provide real-time updates on election-related news.
In her address, Dr. Meeru Abrol emphasized the importance of understanding and participating in electoral processes, especially in today's fast-paced digital world. "The newly established Electoral Literacy Club is dedicated to bridging the gap between students and their civic duties," she stated, highlighting the club's role in enhancing students' engagement with democratic activities.
Dr. Mosmi Raina expressed her enthusiasm for leading the initiative, noting that the club provides a crucial platform for students to connect with and understand the democratic process. The club plans to conduct workshops and interactive sessions to introduce students to these technological tools, demonstrating how they can be used to stay informed and involved in electoral matters.
