Jammu, Aug 29: GGM Science College marked National Sports Day with fervor by organizing Kho-Kho (Men & Women) and Badminton (Men & Women) competitions on campus. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, underlining the importance of sports in education and overall development. The day began with a grand inauguration by the Principal of GGM Science College, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Gupta emphasized the significance of physical activities in fostering discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among students.
The sporting events were conducted under the meticulous supervision of Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director of the college.
The Kho-Kho (Men) matches kicked off with a thrilling contest between College Boys Team A and Team B, where Team A emerged victorious with a narrow win by 3 points. The excitement continued with the Kho-Kho (Women) match, where College Girls Team A triumphed over Team B with a 4-point lead.
The Badminton tournament featured a series of competitive matches. The first match saw Team A, comprising Zaighom Salaria and Sana Thakur, secure a commanding victory over Team B (Parul Sharma and Manvi Sharma) with a 12-point lead. The second match was a closely fought battle between Team C (Danish Fayaz and Kaushki Pandita) and Team D (Ujwal Thakur and Merryleen Kour), with Team C winning by 6 points. The final showdown had Team A (Zaighom Salaria and Sana Thakur) facing off against Team C (Danish Fayaz and Kaushki Pandita), where Team A clinched the championship with an 11-point victory.
The event was further graced by the presence of esteemed faculty members, including Dr. Sunil Dutt, Prof. Chaman Lal (Staff Secretary), Dr. Davinder Sharma, and Prof. Lokinder Singh, who witnessed the matches and encouraged the participants.
The Kho-Kho matches were officiated by Sh. Rajan Sharma and Sh. Mohd. Tahir, ensuring a fair and spirited competition.
The celebration of National Sports Day at GGM Science College not only highlighted the college’s commitment to promoting sports but also inspired students to embrace physical fitness as a vital part of their academic journey.
