GDC Pouni organized Chess and Carrom competitions

JAMMU, Aug 30: To commemorate National Sports Day and celebrate the achievements of India's sports personalities, the sports department of Government Degree College Pouni organized Chess and Carrom competitions. These events kicked off at 12:30 PM, in line with the 2024 theme for National Sports Day: "Sport for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies"?.
The event took place under the able guidance of Dr Udhay Bhanu, Principal GDC Pouni. Mr. Tanpreet Singh, Director of Physical Education, welcomed the Principal, faculty members, and students. The event began with a speech by Mr. Singh, who highlighted the achievements and struggles of Indian sports personalities in their pursuit of excellence. He explained why India celebrates National Sports Day on August 29th and shared the remarkable achievements of Major Dhyan Chand, India's greatest field hockey player. Principal, Udhay Bhanu underlined the importance of sports in one's life and encouraged everyone to wisely use their leisure time by engaging in sports activities.
Dr. Prem Singh, Prof. Bishan Das, Prof. Beant Singh, Dr. U S Liza and Prof. Mohit Anand were the coordinators of the event.
The event saw remarkable participation from students. In the Chess Tournament, participants included Arjun Kumar, Tanish Sharma, Amandeep Sharma, Gifti Kesar, Rahul Kumar, Anmol Sharma, Pavneet Kour, Harleen Kour. Whereas, in the Carrom Tournament, participants included Akashdeep Singh, Amit Singh, Sahil, Shaksham Sharma, Pavneet Kour, Sanjana Devi, Isha Sharma, Palvi Sharma. It was a day filled with enthusiasm and sportsmanship, truly embodying the spirit of National Sports Day.
