Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 30: The Surgical Oncology team at American Oncology Institute (AOI) ASCOMS in Jammu has achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing a complex liver surgery procedure known as bi-segmentectomy for a patient with liver cancer. This advanced anatomical liver resection technique, which demands highly skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art equipment, marks a major advancement in Cancer Care in the region.
The bi-segmentectomy procedure was carried out by AOI Jammu's distinguished surgical oncology team, led by Dr Avinash Rajra and Dr Sujeet Bhat, with crucial support from the anesthesia team, including Dr Atul Sharma and Dr Khuram Malik. The surgery was performed on a 56-year-old male patient who had been diagnosed with liver cancer. Following a comprehensive evaluation, the patient was counseled on the benefits of the procedure, which was executed as a single-step operation. Dr Rajra and his team meticulously removed the tumor along with a margin of healthy liver tissue, ensuring a thorough and effective surgical intervention.
Harish Trivedi, CEO, American Oncology Institute, expressed, "This milestone underscores our commitment to providing world-class Cancer Care in every region we serve. The successful execution of this complex surgery demonstrates the exceptional coordination and expertise of our multidisciplinary team at the Jammu facility. At AOI, we are committed to making advanced treatments accessible, ensuring that patients, regardless of location, can receive the highest standard of care. This achievement also reflects our broader mission of continually investing in the latest technologies and specialized skills to stay at the forefront of cancer treatment and deliver life-changing outcomes for our patients."
Dr Avinash Rajra, Surgical Oncologist, AOI ASCOMS Jammu, stated, "We are extremely pleased to expand the scope of our surgical oncology services and introduce such a high level of advanced care to our region. This successful bi-segmentectomy not only highlights the capabilities of our team but also signifies a new chapter in the treatment options available to our patients. The procedure's success reflects our commitment to delivering top-tier Cancer Care and improving long-term outcomes for those battling early-stage liver cancer."
The patient's post-operative course was smooth, with no complications reported. He was discharged on the fifth day following surgery and is currently recovering well at home. The patient's family expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of the surgery and the care provided by the AOI Jammu team.
Dr Neeraj Bishnoi, RCOO, AOI North Region, added, "This landmark achievement is a testament to AOI's dedication to offering cutting-edge medical interventions that make a real difference in our patients' lives. Our ability to perform such complex surgeries locally in Jammu means that patients no longer need to travel long distances for advanced cancer treatments. We are committed to continuously advancing our medical offerings to meet the needs of our community, ensuring that we deliver care that is not only effective but also accessible."
